Lighthouses - Richard Hancock LRPS

I have been fascinated by Lighthouse since I was a small boy when I stayed at my Uncles Hotel in Jersey which was directly opposite the Corbière Lighthouse. I can remember the light shining through the window as the lantern slowly rotated round casting it’s beam out to sea, causing my imagination running wild with thoughts of being a lighthouse keeper.

As well as the romantic image of lighthouses they also have a spiritual significance for me. A tower of strength unaffected by the waves crashing over them, guiding sailors on their way, and warning them of danger. These structures are also testaments to great feats of engineering often built in some of the most inhospitable places. This sadly makes them very difficult to photograph unless your like to have a boat or helicopter. So my selection of images comprises of on shore lighthouses, harbour lights and lightships.
